We helped inform international AI governance frameworks, built alliances across the multilateral system, provided expert guidance on institutional design, and facilitated dialogue between the tech community and multilateral institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1ImsIgoLUciI3eaT755R1ehHo0tugp_Ft\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Our annual report<\/a>&nbsp;provides an overview of our work in&nbsp;<strong>2024<\/strong>, covering key figures, progress on our&nbsp;<strong>2023-2025 strategy<\/strong>, notable achievements, and financial updates. For a high-level overview, we:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Supported the\u00a0<strong>UN\u2019s Global Digital Compact (GDC) process<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 an international framework establishing some of the first truly global commitments for governing digital and emerging technologies, which included, among others, an agreement to establish the\u00a0<strong>Independent International Scientific Panel on AI<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Global Dialogue on AI Governance<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We delivered\u00a0<strong>five training programs<\/strong>\u00a0for over\u00a0<strong>125 UN diplomats<\/strong>\u00a0to support their participation in the AI-related negotiations, met with more than\u00a0<strong>50 Missions<\/strong>\u00a0across\u00a0<strong>three trips<\/strong>\u00a0to New York to discuss AI governance tradeoffs, and published and submitted numerous policy recommendations informed by input from over\u00a0<strong>20 AI safety experts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supported the implementation of GDC commitments following the\u00a0<strong>Summit of the Future in September<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 with a specific focus on the establishment of the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance. We published one of the first reports (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoninstitute.ch\/blog\/post\/blueprints-design-options-for-the-independent-international-scientific-panel-on-ai-and-the-global-dialogue-on-ai-governance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cBlueprints\u201d<\/a><\/strong>) outlining design options for both institutions in\u00a0<strong>early December<\/strong>, and travelled to New York to discuss these options with over\u00a0<strong>25 stakeholders<\/strong>\u00a0driving the process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organized workshops and briefings for diplomats and international civil servants on\u00a0<strong>Frontier AI R&amp;D<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Compute Governance<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>AI benefit-sharing<\/strong>, involving experts from industry, academia, and civil society. Maintained an extensive collaboration network through\u00a0<strong>800+ calls<\/strong>\u00a0and dozens of speaking engagements, and coordinated a successful\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoninstitute.ch\/blog\/post\/advancing-multilateral-ai-governance-recommendations-for-the-2025-paris-ai-action-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2-day workshop in Paris<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that generated concrete action commitments from\u00a0<strong>25 participants<\/strong>\u00a0ahead of the\u00a0<strong>2025 AI Action Summit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Began exploring direct pathways for national engagement with key developer states and\u00a0<strong>Global South countries<\/strong>, through research projects, relationship building with government representatives, and strategic meetings with national AI governance initiatives, while simultaneously strengthening connections in the\u00a0<strong>Bay Area\u2019s AI ecosystem<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reinforced our organizational structure by securing\u00a0<strong>~CHF1,456,000 in funding<\/strong>, expanding our team with key hires including a\u00a0<strong>Senior Tech Policy Specialist<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Tech Policy Fellow<\/strong>, enhancing our operational infrastructure through new policies and systems, and refining our brand and public communications to better position SI for continued impact in\u00a0<strong>2025 and beyond<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"acf-hidden-block\">Sofia Mikton Konrad Seifert Maxime Stauffer <\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"You can view and download our full 2024 annual report&nbsp;here.
